Boston College Manager, Data Warehouse / Architecture in Chestnut Hill, Massachusetts

Job Description

The Manager, Data Warehouse / Architecture manages the daily operations and projects for a group responsible for the University’s data warehouse, data marts and business intelligence functions. Oversees all operational aspects for supporting these environments. Determines corresponding project plans, priorities, budget items and resource requirements. Oversees the design of the data warehouse to include the data processing and decision support components. Ensures the timeliness, accuracy, quality and integrity of the data and consistency and coordination across the platform. Collaborates with their team and others within ITS to develop requirements, understand reporting needs and provide high level logical data warehouse and business intelligence solutions to meet users’ business needs and facilitate integration of the data warehouse into the ITS infrastructure.

The incumbent works with ITS and business teams to deliver effective methodologies for managing and maintaining the data warehouse. This encompasses effective reporting models and toolsets to allow diverse sets of users to access and extract information from the data warehouse. These systems must meet the specifications for academic, research or administrative needs. Administrative functions represent the primary audience, but other audiences may include faculty, staff, students, prospective students, alumni, parents, and external organizations.

This position also works closely with the Data Integration Manager for identifying and administering data integration to the data repositories and service level agreements with our business partners. The Data Warehouse Manager is knowledgeable with the tools used across the datacenter as well as to our Cloud vendors. This includes both datacenter and hybrid technology for delivering information to the University. Developing a secure and robust architecture is critical to supporting the business units as applications continue to migrate from our datacenter.

Full-Time Equivalent Hiring Range: $126,150 to $157,700; salary commensurate with relevant experience.

Requirements

  • BA/BS in relevant discipline required. 8-10 years building and implementing large scale data warehouses including 4-6 years of project management experience.

Skills Required:

  • Expert analyst skills for requirements development and technical specifications.

  • Ability to work under a formal software development lifecycle.

  • Expert knowledge of data warehousing methodologies using dimensional modeling.

  • Expert Knowledge of Data Integration Toolsets (on-prem & cloud technologies).

  • Expert knowledge of Business Intelligence toolsets.

  • Expert knowledge in writing Oracle Stored Procedures.

  • Expert knowledge of applying security to reporting solutions.

  • Knowledge of using AD or LDAP for authentication.

  • Understanding the IBM Cloudpak solution (preferable).

  • Data vault knowledge (preferable).

  • Should be open to learning new technologies and understanding Kubernetes architecture (preferable).

  • Expert knowledge of data modeling and use of data modeling tools.

  • Experienced mentor.

  • Experience with source management tools such as Git (preferable).

  • Excellent communication and documentation skills.

  • Must be available to address critical system issues during off hours.
