Job Summary:
To provide support for automation systems (hardware, PLC, BAS) supporting the plant operation at the Devens site. This includes directly implementing changes, managing projects as well as providing technical expertise to others in the organization.
Major Responsibilities:
Support designing and maintaining Process Automation Systems Hardware, Building Automation and/or PLC controlled systems in the Manufacturing Facilities in Devens, MA.
Work as a contributing team member of the operations team to design, construct, qualify, startup, and operate the Devens facility. This team will make all preparations leading to a fully compliant, safe and licensed manufacturing facility.
Provide site operations support and day to day management for the manufacturing systems.
Review and audit automation systems design and procurement by A and E firms.
Key Qualifications:
Knowledge of engineering such as normally attained through studies resulting in a BS in Electrical, Mechanical or Chemical Engineering or an Associate Degree in Electronics or Instrumentation.
Specific technical skills including a minimum of 2 years in engineering (with BS degree) or 6 years in instrumentation (with Associate Degree) experience designing, installing, start-up and troubleshooting process automation system software and hardware. Practical experience with large scale distributed control systems required. Troubleshooting foundation fieldbus networks, and DeviceNet segments.
DCS and PLC based experience, preferably gained in the pharmaceutical industry, including PLC (AB Control Logix preferred), Delta Controls and DeltaV experience. Understanding of Ethernet networks, Modbus TCP and Ethernet IP. Knowledgeable with IO infrastructures - Foundation Fieldbus, DeviceNet and Profibus. Capable of troubleshooting and preforming diagnostics of the bus IO systems.
The use of a multimeter and oscilloscope during the checkout of different segments.
Familiar with construction techniques and automation system hardware installation practices. Able to work with construction personnel in the field during I & C installation providing technical support and startup during the automation system hardware installation.
Experience working on the floor in a manufacturing process environment required, preferably in chemical or biotechnology.
Experience with large scale cell culture, chromatography, and membrane filtration unit operations desirable.
Ability to troubleshoot Ethernet network and Variable Frequency Drives through the DeviceNet networks, understanding of engineering documentation such as P& IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures. Ability to read and follow and electrical diagram or schematic.
Position requires 100% on site presence. Position also requires availability to be on call off shift hours, based on a rotating schedule, to support manufacturing operations.
