Major Duties And Responsibilities
Manage the automation hardware engineers responsible for supporting the site process and building automation systems hardware 24 x 7.
Support all automation hardware for process, utilities and building automation systems
Work as a contributing team member of the Controls Engineering team to design, construct, qualify, startup, and operate various facilities within the Devens site.
Lead conceptual planning and scoping of automation hardware needs for site projects
Compile estimates and cost information for DCS and PLC systems as part of capital approval requests.
Review and audit automation systems hardware design and procurement by A and E firms.
Manage employees and Invest in the development of current and future employees through assignment of development opportunities, coaching, mentoring, and effective administration of rewards and recognition programs.
Knowledge And Skills
Bachelor’s degree in Electrical, Mechanical or a related engineering field is required.
Experience as supervisor/manager is preferred.
Specific technical skills including 6 plus years’ experience designing, installing, start-up and troubleshooting process automation system hardware. Understanding of ISA S88 and batch processing operations required. Practical experience with large scale distributed control systems required. Designing and troubleshooting experience with Foundation Fieldbus, Profibus and Devicenet segment is preferred.
Comprehensive DCS and PLC based experience, preferably gained in the pharmaceutical industry, including PLC (AB Control Logix preferred) and DeltaV experience. Understanding of Ethernet networks, ModBus TCP and Ethernet IP. Knowledgeable with IO infrastructures – Foundation FieldBus, DeviceNet and Profibus. Capable of troubleshooting and preforming diagnostics of the bus IO systems.
Knowledge of procedural batch processing automation in a Delta V environment. The use of a multimeter and oscilloscope during the checkout of different segments.
Familiar with construction techniques and automation system hardware installation practices. Able to work with construction personnel in the field during I & C installation providing technical support and startup during the automation system hardware installation.
Familiarity with NFPA 70E and other electrical safety practices and standards.
Ability to troubleshoot Ethernet network and Variable Frequency Drive through the devicenet network. Understanding of engineering documentation such as P& IDs, process flow diagrams and standard operating procedures. Ability to read, follow and edit electrical diagrams or schematics.
Work with all departments and with all levels of the organization, specifically Quality, Manufacturing Engineering, and Manufacturing Operations
Requires one to give a high attention to detail and on occasion to properly use Personal Protective Equipment (PPE). Although this is primarily a day shift position (8AM-5PM), support of 24/7 manufacturing operations will require to be on an “on call” rotation for any issues that arise during off shift hours to support manufacturing operations.
Take action, final decision, recommend Exercise sound judgment in making decisions and recommendations within generally defined practices and policies and notify senior management when necessary.
Receives assignments in the form of objectives and establishes goals and processes to meet objectives. Work is reviewed by management to measure meeting of objectives and schedules.
Supervise team of exempt employees (3-5) and/or contract employees.
