Staples Director of Enterprise Architecture in Framingham, Massachusetts
The Director of Enterprise Architecture is accountable for creating and defining an IT Architecture Governance Framework and organizing/leading an IT Architectural Review Board. This will be delivered through the process of defining the strategy, plans and governance needed to implement and manage enterprise architecture domain designs and technology standards. The Director is responsible for coordinating the ongoing collaboration required to design, develop and integrate long-range technology roadmap that anticipates future needs and maximizes technology investments. The Director will lead a team of senior architects, establish standard engagement models across the organization, implement a governance model and provide coherent architectural guidance for all strategic initiatives.

Lead the creation and evolution of an enterprise architecture function/program.
Lead and facilitate the creation of governing principles to guide EA decision making.
Develops and establishes standards and polices for technology and collaborates with business and SDS teams to inventory and classify existing technology assets.
Adapt architecture roadmap periodically as the business strategy and goals evolve to ensure ongoing alignment between the business strategy and the architecture strategy.
Generate architecture policies, standards and procedures; maintain in-depth knowledge of the organization's technologies and architectures.
Ensure Staples knowledge of enterprise architecture remains state of the art.
Develop architectural metrics and reports for relevant business stakeholders. Ensure projects are completed within committed time and budget and are integrated with other architecture projects.
Lead the development and communication of architecture direction and guidance to application integration related projects and initiatives
Ensure integration of application technical architecture with other enterprise architecture components. Manage and direct feasibility reviews of architecture solutions and alternatives and provide guidance and direction for application integration architecture and compliance issues
Align future-state information architecture to key business drivers and objectives
Utilize future-state information architecture to drive future-state systems and technology architectures
Define integrated end-to-end Information Target State Architectures that enable business results and validate the information portfolio
Define and develop Common Information Architecture processes, methods and tools
Drive integration of Common Information Model, Information Asset Catalog
Innovation and Change:
Collaborate across business and SDS functions to identify opportunities to leverage common solutions and extend the adoption of standards.
Identify new technologies that meet specified cost-benefit criteria and take appropriate action to introduce relevant technologies to the company. This may include proof of concept activities, cost-benefit documentation, training, configuration recommendations, contract and service level requirements, etc.
Lead and implement the redesign of next generation customer gateway
Lead the reduction of applications and Decision Support System (DSS) footprint
Participate in internal process improvement initiatives and recommend best practices to the business
Cultivate relationships with SDS LT and senior management and proactively communicate architectural decisions, plans, goals and strategies to VP stakeholders in the business. Educate stakeholders on the value of enterprise architecture and provide consultation by anticipating future business and technology scenarios.
Use technology knowledge to anticipate and understand the implications of the latest technologies to communicate and evangelize them to appropriate audiences and to integrate these technologies appropriately into products and programs.
Foster proactive communication between business and SDS teams to improve effectiveness and value of information technology strategy and architecture processes to the business.
Responsible for developing and integrating organizational plans and guiding the development of integrated business and technical strategies, goals and objectives with other SDS leaders and key business function leaders.
Provide leadership and partner with SDS LT to define, gain sponsorship and required investment to drive key application integration initiatives across the enterprise, including the future state application integration architectures, roadmaps, standards, tools, policies, principles, services and competency centers necessary to achieve success.
Interface and negotiate across several internal business areas to define the direction for IT architecture, Blue prints and solutions.
Facilitate the communication of architecture best practices throughout the architecture community and the SDS organization by participating in leadership forums, architecture councils.
Work with third-party vendors on tool optimization efforts
Develop the enterprise architecture function and build a world class team of architects. Provide architectural direction to the team; manage performance and talent development.
Direct team of senior architects to develop and deploy application integration strategies and standards.
Foster an effective organization, growing capabilities and talents needed to deliver against strategic plans
Challenge the organization with clear goals and inspire them to make a difference
Oversee hiring decisions, pay actions and development of associates in org
Conduct full performance appraisals and coaching for direct reports
Provide direction, guidance and definition of Staples enterprise architecture to effectively support the corporate strategy over the next 3-5 years
Responsible for driving the convergence of business architecture and technology architecture to ensure digital, data and enterprise initiatives are enabling the strategy of the company in the most effective and efficient manner.
Conduct a current state assessment of IT landscape; develop and maintain current and planned state architectural blueprints, as well as an aspirational architectural roadmap for the enterprise. Key components of the roadmap include sequencing of initiatives and resource requirements.
Integrate with IT Functional leads, IT Security and Infrastructure and responsible for creation and communication of the Enterprise Integration framework, policies, standards and procedures.
Contribute to strategic, transformational programs, promoting implementation of industry best practices in integration architecture, guiding the team of architects, including consultants in their work.
Lead Enterprise Integration Architecture and Delivery – Be responsible for defining the Integration Architecture strategy, reference architecture, design patterns, platform infrastructure, business service governance and re-usability, non-functional requirements.
BA or BS in Computer Science or related field is required
MBA or advanced degree is preferred
10+ years of relevant leadership experience in enterprise architecture /integration
10+ years relevant experience in IT, enterprise/application/information architecture
8-10 years programming and systems analysis in high technology business area
Experienced leader with architecture experience demonstrable at an enterprise level, innovative approach, and ability to recognize industry trends and transform into practical solutions, secure, scalable and supportable
Knowledge of Architecture Frameworks such as TOGAF
3+ years of experience in building and implementing an architecture roadmap
In-depth knowledge of Cloud Technologies, preferably experience with Azure
A strong understanding of Information/Application security on premise and on-cloud
Expert understanding of foundational architectural concepts and architecture frameworks and tools, defining and implementing enterprise information architecture and MDM solutions
A strong understanding of the architectural principals of web based platforms including SaaS / PaaS, multi-tenancy, multi-tiered infrastructure and application servers.
