Staples Manager of Reporting and Analytical Solutions in Framingham, Massachusetts

Description The Merchandising Operations and Vendor Management Team is seeking a Manager of Reporting and Analytical Solutions to create and partner in the creation of user-facing tools that drive insightful decision making for Merchants, Vendors and Merchant support functions. This role will be accountable for developing or aiding in the development of interactive, drillable, visually appealing dashboards, scorecards, and self-service reporting tools across multiple channels and business units. In addition, this function will work on user adoption of tools, serve as the front line for user support and will represent Merchandising’s reporting and data needs to the IT organization. The right candidate must be able to serve as an effective translator between technical development teams and the business.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities:

  • Develop insightful, forward-thinking and scalable Business Intelligence solutions for Merchants, Vendors and other stakeholders Shepherd the requirements gathering process from concept to documentation to execution

  • Manage communication between project participants to minimize misunderstandings and set realistic, agreed upon development and execution requirements, deliverables and timelines

  • Plan and coordinate the rollout of new tools via training and documentation Provide break-fix and enhancement support for existing and future BI tools, reports, dashboards, etc.

  • Work closely with enterprise BI Team to transition business-built BI tools to enterprise BI tools, when applicable

Build and sustain relationships with internal business customers

  • Foster a collaborative and healthy relationship with key business partners

  • Be a catalyst for generating project ideas

  • Challenge business customers to think outside of the box and push BI capabilities to their logical limits

  • Generate trust and credibility through clear communication and a strong working knowledge of business needs

  • Creatively manage expectations in a fast-paced and complex environment

Be a thought leader for BI at Staples

  • Be current with BI trends through attending conferences, trade publications, and networking with other BI professionals

  • Meet with outside BI vendors regularly to stay aware of the latest technologies

  • Work with BI leaders at Staples to communicate and drive the need for continuous improvement in the BI space to senior leadership

  • Champion BI to internal departments/associates that are not currently leveraging automated tools

  • Provide leadership, support, and direction in helping to realize Staples goal to provide internal customers with self-service BI solutions

Qualifications Essential Skills Required:

  • BS / BA, preferably in Business, Computer Science or Information Systems

  • 3+ years development experience in self-service BI tools such as Tableau or Qlikview

  • 5+ years in a highly analytical, results-driven environment

  • Advanced knowledge of SQL

  • Experience working with large, complex hierarchical data sets

  • Knowledge of relational and dimensional database structures, theories, principles, and practices

  • Comfortable working both independently with minimal supervision and closely in a team setting

Preferred Skills Required:

  • Proficient with Hadoop and Hive

  • Experience with business-facing ETL tools such as Alteryx

  • Advanced Excel skills
