Software Support / Quality Assurance Engineering Position

Varian Semiconductor Equipment is a division of Applied Materials. We specialize in ion implanters, a type of machine that is used as part of the chip manufacturing process. Ion implanters are large, complex machines that consist of a particle accelerator combined with a high speed robotic motion system. The machines we make enable the technology we use.
The Engineering organization at Applied Materials - VSE consists of engineers of varying backgrounds: mechanical, industrial, chemical, software and electrical engineering along with physicists, material scientists and computer science. In order to deliver the product our customers expect the team focuses on design integrity, research & development, supplier & product quality, installed system validation, and new product introduction standards. As a member of the engineering team, you will work closely with Applied Materials - VSE's manufacturing, quality, supply chain and R&D departments to ensure a world class product.
Typical Duties:
Team member for the Applied Materials – Software Support and Software Quality Assurance Department
Troubleshoots a variety of difficult software problems and interface with engineering teams to improve product quality.
Performs customer specific software testing and analysis on bugs and enhancements.
Field & Floor SW Support
Troubleshoot, diagnose, and resolve system/software issues and field escalations
Interface with customers, field/product support engineers
SW installs, upgrades, configuration management
SW Release regression testing
Perform software testing – code reviews, simulator testing, machine testing
Document and track test deficiencies – verify code fixes
Maintain test plans
Factory Automation
Review customer FA specifications – new tool purchase
Troubleshoot & test Factory Automation Software – verify meets customer & SEMI specs
Control System Upgrade Support
Control system qualification for computer obsolescence
Test stand (computer) setup, imaging and support
SW License generation
Develop & publish training material for the Applied Materials – VSE engineering community
Skills Required:
Good communication skills … very responsive
Strong computer, software troubleshooting skills
Strong experience installing, configuring, imaging and testing computer systems & software
Creative, innovative with resolving issues … thinks outside the box
Enthusiasm with what he/she wants to learn and do (Science & Engineering passion)
Self-initiator, willing to seek answers and find paths to resources and solutions.
Ability to take direction and to collaborate within and across functional organizations (Team Player).
Implanter experience a plus
