The Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques Group develops radar systems and technology to solve challenges for defense and national security applications. We tackle sensing and data exploitation problems in a comprehensive manner by combining underlying physics, RF hardware, and signal processing techniques to innovate novel systems. The group’s many resources, including an airborne radar testbed on a Twin Otter aircraft, an electronic warfare test facility, and GPU-powered Artificial Intelligence/Machine Learning laboratory enable data collection, algorithm development, prototyping, and evaluation. Concepts often begin with modeling and simulation and quickly move to field experimentation to fuel data-driven development. Key research areas include: waveform design, adaptive signal processing including MIMO and distributed sensing, deep neural networks for target classification and sensor control automation, and small form-factor RF subsystems. Principal staff expertise in the group includes systems analysis, digital signal processing, radar tracking and imaging, experimental physics, and hardware development and integration.
The Airborne Radar Systems and Techniques Group seeks a coop to support development of advanced radar systems for intelligence, surveillance, and reconnaissance missions. This coop will work closely with technical staff members to identify project tasks and set priorities, then proceed to execute many of these tasks independently. Demonstration of strong analytical skills, as well as experience with Matlab™ or other high level programming languages, is desirable.
Intern projects typically involve one or more of the following: RF sensing, signal processing and machine learning, laboratory test and measurement, prototype system development, field testing, and data analysis. Interns will typically formulate procedures, designs and/or algorithms needed to complete a project, then develop and test required software or hardware, analyze data, and present results to their project team.
The successful candidate must be enrolled in a BS, MS, or PhD program in Electrical Engineering, Physics, Computer Science or Mathematics. Demonstrated ability to work in a team environment is essential. Pertinent previous summer internships are beneficial.
Summer co-ops positions and school-year co-ops will both be considered.
Selected candidate will be subject to a pre-employment background investigation and must be able to obtain and maintain a Secret level DoD security clearance.
