Sumitomo Pharma America Holdings, Inc. (SMPA) is looking for a Senior Director, IT Project & Process Management to join our IT Organization in Marlborough, MA.

Senior Director, IT Project and Process Management directs and oversees the Project Management Office (PMO) and IT Process Management activities to ensure IT programs and projects meet organization goals and requirements. Develops and implements PMO processes and policies, directs project management staff, and works with other department leaders to define, prioritize, and develop projects and programs. This role works closely with the IT Leadership team to help drive the overall project management strategy by ensuring that the IT organization is consistently tracking performance and making progress against strategic initiatives. Facilitates the maintenance and evolution of IT processes and policies and oversees process governance.

Essential Functions

  • Direct and oversee the IT Project Management Office (PMO) to ensure IT projects are executed in accordance with organizational goals and requirements.

  • Mature the PMO by implementing best practices and focusing on delivering value to the business.

  • Analyzes capacity and resource allocation to ensure effective and efficient delivery of services and establish policies, procedures, standards, methodologies and guidelines for information technology projects and services

  • Executes strategic priorities, completes strategic assessments, and recommends appropriate actions, improvements and cost savings opportunities and implements recommendations

  • Define and maintain the standards and associated SOPs for project management, project delivery methodology and other key IT processes.

  • Develop, implement, and continuously improve IT PMO guidelines and standards.

  • Maintain the IT Project Management Framework and Development Life Cycle, including ITIL processes.

  • Interface with leaders and stakeholders within the organization to ensure that the PMO is delivering quality project management services.

  • Represent the interests of the PMO at all levels of the organization.

  • Communicate frequently with the IT senior leadership, including providing an overall program & portfolio roadmap, ongoing status updates (scheduled and ad hoc), and insight into significant areas of risk, escalations, and financial health.

  • Provide executive leaders with the information needed to assess and decide which project proposals have the highest potential value, impact, and strategic alignment.

  • Interface with executives to define project priorities, implementation opportunities, challenges and communicate project risks and opportunities.

  • Maintain the roadmap for the IT Project Portfolio Management tool, Planview PPM Pro. Develop guidance for use of PPM Pro. Develop and provide training for PPM Pro for IT Project Managers Manage 3rd party resources supporting these activities.

  • Responsible for ensuring the optimization, compliance, and adoption of ITs standard project delivery methodology.

  • Responsible for Resource Management for IT Project Managers

  • Provide performance feedback to all PMs on a regular basis. Act as an escalation point as required. Support and assist with professional development. Work closely with PM's to ensure consistent and quality delivery of services and make improvements as needed.

  • Responsible for process governance - Facilitate the maintenance and evolution of IT processes and policies

  • Represent IT in Systems Governance initiatives. Work collaboratively with other departments, develop relationships with key personnel, and influence outcomes.

  • Provide guidance and oversight for adherence to and maintenance of IT Processes.

  • Provide refresher training and/or documentation.

  • Perform process audits and ensure that processes are kept current and are being followed.

  • Review and update Project Management Framework and SDLC processes and documentation regularly.

  • Create and maintain corporate and departmental SOPS, Policies and Work Instructions

  • Continuous improvement to the IT Project Review and Prioritization process to provide greater insights and management of the overall project portfolio.

  • Ensure that IT process documentation and adherence are updated to reflect shared services where necessary.

Minimum Education, Experience, Knowledge and Skills Required

  • PMP certification

  • 10+ years in IT Program/Project Management focused or role(s) requiring similar skills (i.e., delivering large, complex, cross-functional projects)

  • 10+ years of Resource Management experience

  • Experience designing and implementing processes and procedures, as well as communicating those to a broader organization

  • Experience building and managing a PMO team

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills, particularly on challenging, complex, and difficult issues to develop solutions that address root causes.

  • Proven skills and experience communicating with and influencing senior level stakeholders.

  • Experience working in a fast-paced environment with competing priorities

  • Flexible, adaptable, and resourceful when managing changing timelines and multiple deliverables.

  • Demonstrated leadership ability to establish and manage a high-performance team.

  • Motivated to build relationships at executive levels with customers, and vendor groups.
