Synchrony VMware Cloud Infrastructure Engineer in MARLBOROUGH, Massachusetts

Job Description:

Role Summary/Purpose:

The VMware Cloud Infrastructure Engineer will contribute to the technical engineering, design, and architecture of private and public cloud environments to run Synchrony workloads securely and with a high level of resiliency and availability. The individual will contribute through an Agile team that works to design, build, and support compute, storage, and networks in our private cloud environment.

The Cloud Engineer will have a wide range of engagement on projects and initiatives that may include:

  • Private & Public Cloud integration to enable Synchrony’s cloud presence and capabilities

  • Driving best practice design patterns for existing VMware based infrastructure

  • Emerging technologies to support key business initiatives

  • Automation and improvement of existing technology infrastructure and platforms

The ideal candidate will have strong VMware infrastructure experience with internal customer-facing interactions with key stakeholders and success leading deep technical architecture discussions with senior customer executives, Enterprise Architects, IT Management and Developers.

This position is remote, where you will work from home, and may require you to occasionally commute to one our offices for in person engagement activities such as team meetings, training and culture events. Essential Responsibilities:

  • Apply technical knowledge and customer insights to create a modernization roadmap. Architect solutions to meet business and IT needs, ensuring technical viability of new projects and successful deployments, while orchestrating key resources and infusing key Infrastructure technologies

  • Contribute to engineering effort for virtual network (NSX-T and NSX-V) and compute (ESX) infrastructure across multiple platforms including private and public cloud environments with a primary focus on VMware.

  • Support a variety of mission critical applications from an infrastructure perspective in private, on premise, and public clouds.

  • Contribute to developing automation and configuration of management platforms.

  • Share insights and best practices and connect with Engineering teams to remove key blockers.

  • Coordinate integration, deployment, and testing of various virtualization technologies.

  • Collaborate across a wide audience of stakeholders regarding business objectives, priorities, and impact of proposed changes.

  • Responsible for architecting, implementing, and maintaining automation tools to reduce time and complexity of tasks related to compute, storage, and networking.

  • Collaborate with various groups and individuals to troubleshoot and resolve escalated production issues

  • Support the standing standards policies and procedures of the Engineering team

  • Assist with developing junior to mid-level engineers with mentorship and career coaching

  • Perform other duties and/or special projects as assigned

Qualifications / Requirements:

  • 7+ years of success in complex deployment projects, architecture, design, implementation, and/or support of highly distributed applications.

  • 5+ years of enterprise-scale technical experience with cloud and hybrid infrastructures, architecture designs, migrations, and technology management.

  • 5+ years of experience with VMware technologies such as VSphere, ESX, NSX, and the vRealize suite of products.

  • Recent VMware certification (VCP or VCAP preferred) with proven track record of applying knowledge to engineer, architect, or operate complex virtualized environments.

Desired Characteristics:

  • Understanding of Private and Public Cloud ecosystems and the ability to leverage partner solutions to solve customer needs including products and solutions by VMware, Amazon, and others.

  • Knowledge of both on premise and public cloud virtual network technologies and associated automation and configuration management tools such as ACI, UCS Director, NSX-V/NSX-T, HCX, AVI Networks, Palo Alto, etc.

  • Experience with compute, network, and storage infrastructure in an on-premise environment and their public cloud equivalents.

  • Experience with production systems and dealing with production issues

  • Competence in using scripting and programming languages to automate frequently executed activities

  • Experience working on or leading teams performing systems automation and integration (ideally leveraging an agile methodology)

  • Proven track record of building deep technical relationships with senior IT executives in large or mission critical environments. Experience in managing various stakeholder relationships to get consensus on solution/projects.

  • Ability to solve customer problems through a variety of technologies required.

  • Collaboration and Communication. Acknowledged for driving decisions collaboratively, resolving conflicts and ensuring follow through with exceptional verbal and written communication skills.

  • Ability to orchestrate, lead, and influence virtual teams, ensuring successful implementation of customer projects.

  • Presentation skills with a high degree of comfort with both large and small audiences (Senior Executives, IT management, Application administrators)

Eligibility Requirements:

  • You must be 18 years or older

  • You must have a high school diploma or equivalent

  • You must be willing to take a drug test, submit to a background investigation and submit fingerprints as part of the onboarding process

  • You must be able to satisfy the requirements of Section 19 of the Federal Deposit Insurance Act.

  • New hires (Level 4-7) must have 9 months of continuous service with the company before they are eligible to post on other roles. Once this new hire time in position requirement is met, the associate will have a minimum 6 months’ time in position before they can post for future non-exempt roles. Employees, level 8 or greater, must have at least 24 months’ time in position before they can post. All internal employees must have at least a “consistently meets expectations” performance rating and have approval from your manager to post (or the approval of your manager and HR if you don’t meet the time in position or performance requirement).

The salary range for this position is 70,000.00 - 150,000.00 USD Annual

Salaries are adjusted according to market in CA and Metro NY and some positions are bonus eligible.
