SMS Data Products Group Cable Operations Team Lead in Massachusetts
SMS is seeking an BICSI certified Cable Operations Team Lead. The successful candidate will functionally report to the BLITS 2.0 Infrastructure manager at Hanscom AFB MA and is responsible to lead a team of cable technicians and will execute inside and outside plant cable infrastructure engineering, installations at Hanscom AFB MA, leading, managing and implementing cable solutions as per AF enterprise standards in support of 66 ABG/SC and their customers. The ideal candidate will have 8-10 years of experience in inside / outside plant cable engineering installation sciences, have demonstrated and proven experience in leading teams in infrastructure engineering installation arts and be EIA/TIA/BICSI industry type certified as such. At least two prior work experience references will be required.

The candidate for this position will lead a team of cable technicians and will be responsible for engineering, managing and implementing cable solutions as per AF enterprise standards in support of 66 ABG/SC and their customers. The proper candidate will:
Lead cable operations team and cable infrastructure projects with equal vigor, set individual and team level goals, follow-up on progress, foster team work and individual growth opportunities
Deliver quality results in a fast paced, high expectation environment, working multiple tasks streams concurrently
Provide cable engineering support for new building constructions, renovations and upgrades to include inside plant, outside plant, backbone cabling, structured cabling systems, grounding and bonding, pathways and space, wireless, and communication closet design in accordance with applicable AFIs and DoD regulations
Manage daily maintenance, testing and troubleshooting of copper and fiber optic inside and outside plants, both classified and unclassified systems
Bring extensive hands-on experience in designing enterprise cable solutions that will increase performance and flexibility to existing infrastructure that supports DoD provisioned voice, video and data, support site surveys, engineer technical solutions, generate materials list, labor estimates and Statement of Work to meet new requirements
Provide technical expertise on conducting Confined Space/manhole safety briefings, permits and inspections of confined space/manhole safety equipment
Use skills and experience as well as tools and technology to design, install, configure and troubleshoot cable infrastructure and provide customer support for cable services
Manage all Communications and Information Systems Installation Records (CSIR) for inside plant and outside plant Communications Mission Data Set (CMDS) layer in the CIPS Visualization Component (CVC)
Monitor all hardware 'stock items' to assure proper level are maintained
Update and maintain cable topology drawings/fiber availability drawings using AutoCAD, document new and changed processes
Manage all service incident and or service requests in applicable AF ticketing systems
Manage work orders according to contract metric thresholds while providing premier customer service delivery
Operate in underground / confined spaces safely and professionally
Professionally interact with customers and help resolve customer issues as required
Provide planned and or emergency afterhours support as needed
Expertise in Fiber Optic/Data Cable Engineering
Experience in providing technical solutions, cost estimates and material specifications derived from cable plant requirements
Fluency in AutoCAD and Microsoft Office Products such as Word, Excel, Power Point.
Experience in installation/termination/testing/troubleshooting of structured cabling (CAT5e, CAT6) copper cabling plant and fiber optic cable plants are a must
Proficient with cable test equipment and working knowledge of all applicable TIA/EIA cabling standards a must
Ability to work well under pressure and deadlines, handle multi-tasking, and work independently with minimum supervision
Strong organizational skills and customer service skills.
Must have excellent verbal and written communication skills and demonstrate a high level of organization and task follow-up skills
Ability to lift about 70+lbs required
EDUCATION AND WORK EXPERIENCE
HS diploma required, AS/BS Information Technology preferred, plus 8-10 years’ experience as a Cable Plant Engineer/Team Lead with strong background in Cable Plant Engineering Design & Architecture, Installation and Troubleshooting
BICSI/RCDD preferred but not required; OSHA 10-hour training in general industry safety and health is required. Confined Space Training Certification will be required (if not already certified)
Secret Level DoD Security Clearance required (ability to pass a background investigation and be granted a customer waiver to start on contract while clearance process is underway may be possible for the right candidate)
