How will you make an impact?

As a member of the R&D Connectivity Systems Engineering team, the Systems Design Engineer III will partner with our Software Engineers, Cloud Platform Architects, Technical Product Managers, Business Unit R&D leadership, OEM partners, and SAFe development teams to bring connectivity solutions and services to products. You will be working with technologies from the physical devices to the edge to the cloud in designing solutions to our customers' biggest challenges. You will provide deep domain and technical expertise in systems design to our team, and design and implement connectivity solutions. Working closely with R&D teams across the division, you will provide input and guidance to our laboratory product R&D teams to ensure new products seamlessly integrate with our connectivity solutions and are 'born digital.' Your ideas and solutions will impact product lines throughout the lab, and help deliver critical connectivity services to our customers.

What will you do?

  • Lead in the development and integration of embedded hardware solutions for connectivity systems, including both IoT / Cloud based deployments as well as on-premises / local Cloud applications.

  • Work with Software Engineers, Product Managers, and a global team to bring connectivity products and services to market.

  • Apply diversified knowledge of embedded systems design principles and connectivity methods and standards.

  • Work with cross functional teams through direct interactions and team meetings in developing and translating new concepts into applications.

  • Lead and participate in formal design reviews of application architectures, data strategies, UI/UX, as well as FMEA, DFM, DFT, and other related analyses.

  • Develop design concepts or models, contribute to prototype and MVP technical development, and conduct performance testing to determine practical feasibility of concepts.

How will you get here?

Education

Bachelor's Degree in Electrical/Electronic Engineering, Computer Science/Computer Systems Engineering

Master's Degree a plus

Experience

  • 7+ years of hardware design experience related to product development.

  • 2+ years of experience in developing embedded / IoT devices.

  • Experience bridging Agile and Waterfall development methods to deliver products to market.

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Extensive knowledge of the full embedded hardware development cycle, including design, integration and test, compliance, and production release.

  • Extensive knowledge of device connectivity standards, such as Wi-Fi, Ethernet, Bluetooth, Cellular, LoRa

  • Experience with PCB design and development

  • Experience with specification, evaluation, and selection of 3rd party (COTS) hardware/suppliers

  • Experience with languages such as Python, C, C++ Experience with hardware integration of Linux OS for embedded applications

  • Experience with cloud connectivity standards, such as MQTT, HTTPS, SSL/TLS
