ERT Vice President, R&D in Medford, Massachusetts

Clario is looking to hire a Vice President, R&D. In this role you will be responsible for leading R&D functions, including software development and test teams. It ensures efficient and effective technical development, including maintaining our current and legacy platforms and expanding our product offerings and feature set, integrating the offering with the other product lines and common services of ERT where appropriate. It ensures the timely development of high quality, well architected software in line with SOPs. The position manages local and remote teams in multiple global locations and is solely responsible for the R&D budgets for each Product Line.

  • Fully participate with R&D leadership and executive management team in the formulation of product architecture, company vision, strategy and goals. Provide input into how R&D can enable the Company vision, strategy and goals.

  • Support the creation of the product road map in collaboration with the Product Line Executive, Product Management team and with other R&D leaders.

  • Lead R&D teams to plan and develop innovative and breakthrough solutions that enable the Company vision, strategy and goals and that meet specified performance and cost criteria.

  • Build and lead a high performing team of R&D staff. Drive a performance and innovation-oriented culture. Fuel passion within the team for designing and building innovative products.

  • Prepare and manage the budget planning and spending of the R&D team, ensuring resource availability in line with the product roadmap commitments.

  • Manage all administrative activities related to R&D including training and recruitment

  • Ensure R&D staff are clear on their responsibilities under Clario's SOPs and SWIs and confirm their compliance and understanding at suitable intervals.

  • Work closely with customers and Clario Operations to address escalations and understand critical items which must be considered during the SDLC.

  • Report the status of projects and any deviations from stated timelines or quality. Highlight and (where possible) mitigate all potential risks, operational failures, time constraint problems and extraordinary events that will negatively impact Clario.

  • Select, manage and maintain relationships with technology partners and vendors where appropriate.


  • Carry out supervisory responsibilities in accordance with the organization’s policies and applicable laws. Responsibilities include interviewing, hiring, training and developing employees; planning, assigning and directing work; appraising performance; rewarding and disciplining employees; addressing complaints and resolving problems.

  • Responsible for organization development, change management, leadership development, diversity, and the enhancement of performance of the unit.

  • IT related, scientific or technical education/degree or equivalent.


  • Desired 15+ years’ experience leading Enterprise level R&D and/or Strategic Technology Program Teams.

  • Experience managing the full product engineering lifecycle including specification, development, test and validation using Agile delivery methodologies.

  • Experience of managing teams working under a Product Development Lifecycle (PLC) and Development Lifecycle (DLC).

  • Experience delivering in Hybrid Cloud, IaaS and PaaS environments, including architecture for cloud and migration of legacy application to cloud.

  • Strong experience and demonstrated success in line management and team development, with hands-on experience of defining objectives and producing deliverables in a fast-paced environment.

  • Strong architectural leadership experience with knowledge of Enterprise solution architectural considerations.

  • Working knowledge of data privacy and information security considerations. ∙ Good trouble shooting and communication skills with a strong blend of analytical, decision-making and creative problem-solving skills.

  • Life Sciences experience desirable.

  • Strong knowledge of clinical data transfer and storage standards.

  • Good knowledge of risk management techniques.
