TraceLink, Inc. QA Manager, Performance Testing in North Reading, Massachusetts

As the Manager of Software Performance QA, you will be responsible for driving and defining the performance test strategies that ensure operational excellence of our high-volume, highly distributed supply chain applications. You will lead a team of performance SDETs by providing strategic and tactical leadership, technical guidance, people management and team development. The role will require proactively working across the product development landscape to understand both current and expected performance requirements of our applications.

  • Provide QA thought leadership, especially as it pertains to application performance and operational excellence

  • Operate cross functionally in an agile environment to understand project readiness, influence testability, and ensure proper test development, overall system reliability, performance, and quality

  • Lead and develop QA team’s expertise, in performance testing, through continuous improvement and mentorship, drive performance testing as an integral part of the QA strategy across all teams

  • Devise and execute performance tests with the goal of making recommendations in application design and performance; continually improve and increase performance testing coverage

  • Create or leverage open-source tools to design testing frameworks that can simulate real-world transaction volumes involving potentially millions of transactions per day

  • Track and review team’s daily activities and provide guidance to ensure a high quality of results

  • Develop and utilize metrics to help improve process and drive team’s performance

  • Engage with Customers & Services to understand performance issues in the field and incorporate into the QA process; develop tools to better understand production usage characteristics to improve ongoing performance

  • Engage with Pre-sales to provide application performance benchmarking results

Required:

  • BS/MS degree in Computer Science, Engineering, Mathematics or equivalent

  • 5+ years’ experience managing and growing software QA teams, especially in a performance testing capacity

  • 10+ years’ experience working in a software development environment

  • Strong experience with creating and executing performance tests for high-volume, event-based systems, especially involving millions of transactions per day

  • Strong experience in reviewing architecture and design principles and providing recommendations for improving application and system performance

  • Strong analytics skills with the ability to present key performance metrics and KPIs

  • Familiarity with modern testing methodologies and techniques

  • Ability to balance structure, process, risk management and time-to-market factors

  • Proven record of strong leadership, communication, team development, problem solving & organization skills

  • Experience in programming in at least one commercial programming language e.g. Java

  • Self-starter, self-managed individual who can work independently and quickly adjust to changing priorities

Desired:

  • Experience working with build automation tools such as Jenkins, Nexus, Maven and Ant

  • Familiarity with automation tools/frameworks such as TestNG, Junit, Karate, Gatling

  • Experience in developing against web-services and web-based APIs

  • Familiarity with QA and DevOps methodologies and tools especially related to AWS

  • Experience with JIRA, Confluence, TestRail

  • Business and technical background in the Life Sciences, Healthcare, Pharmaceutical industry, a plus
