Software Design Engineer

The System Test Group (STG) of Teradyne is the world’s leading supplier of Automated Test Equipment (ATE) for Electronic Boards and Assemblies. You will be working with the Development Team on the world’s leading ICT Test Platform, the TestStation family of in-circuit test solutions.

You will join a group of dedicated, enthusiastic, energetic team players. As a small, independent division of Teradyne, the STG division provides a unique blend of entrepreneurial spirit, combined with the scope and financial security of a $1B Global Electronic Equipment Supplier. This role will provide a high degree of responsibility, visibility, and latitude.

Position Scope

The software design engineer will design and extend software for a large test system incorporating many levels of software, from the user interface to the driver level. Collaborate with engineers from other disciplines in diagnosing and solving complex system problems.


You will be involved in all phases of software engineering. Working with senior engineers in the STG division, and with the latitude for independent

contribution, you will be assigned to a variety of projects related to in-circuit test systems such as:

  • Design, implementation, and documentation

  • Prototype debug and analysis

  • Testing and verification of performance

  • Sustaining engineering on established products

Basic Qualifications & Skills

  • Proficient in developing with C/C++, C#, .NET framework, and XML;

  • Demonstrated knowledge of MFC and Object-Oriented Methodologies / UML programming skills

  • Knowledge of MS Visual Studio Development tools and the Microsoft Windows Platforms

  • General understanding of software engineering processes

  • Demonstrable hardware and driver knowledge

  • Highly motivated team player who can excel in a dynamic environment with strong personal discipline, and good verbal and written communication skills


  • Successful candidates must have a BS in Computer Science or Computer Engineering, or equivalent experience and 3-5 years of experience.

  • Strong analytical/problem solving skills

  • Strong sense of team-oriented problem-solving techniques

  • Ability to work individually on problems, but recognize appropriate escalation timelines and methods

  • Flexibility and ability to prioritize individual workload

  • Quickly assimilate new technologies

  • Proficiency in spoken and written English
