Saint-Gobain VIE - Materials Engineering - Sensors Group (M/W) (H/F) in Northborough, Massachusetts

  • Lead 2-4 projects in the field of sensors (assigned to the incumbent). The projects may be related to the development of competencies and to the internal dissemination of information (15 %), or directly driven by needs expressed by Saint-Gobain businesses (85 %). In the latter case, the project work that involves external companies, consists of:

  • Selection and test of relevant technologies

  • Development of functional prototypes and field evaluation

  • Design iterations following feedback from internal or external customers

  • Development of final solution and transfer of technology to the business teams

  • Participate in the identification of internal measurement needs and to the establishment of projects with internal partners.

  • Participate in the identification and evaluation of potential external partners such as integrators, software developers, electronic systems manufacturers, and engineering consulting companies.

  • Summarize project approaches and results in concise and accurate technical memos.

  • Communicate project strategies and results to internal customers and management through formal presentations.

  • Champion efforts to drive HSE initiatives and consciousness in the organization.

  • Must have 1+ years of hands-on experience with sensors, data acquisition systems, and data processing.

  • Must have experience with the development of systems reliant on DIY electronics (Raspberry Pi, Arduino, or similar).

  • Must have programming experience (at least one of the following languages: C/C++/C#, Matlab, R, Python, Java, JavaScript).

  • Ability to efficiently communicate orally and by email with people having a wide variety of backgrounds.

  • Demonstrated ability to write concise and accurate technical documents and give strong technical presentations to a wide variety of audience.

  • Fluency in English.

  • Familiarity with machining and rapid prototyping techniques is a plus.

  • Familiarity with PCB design is a plus.

MINIMUM QUALIFICATIONS FOR THE POSITION:

  • Master’s degree in mechanical engineering, electronics, robotics, electrical engineering, computer science, with industrial experience in using and integrating sensors, performing data acquisition and data processing.

  • Excellent oral and written communication skills are necessary to communicate with all levels of management, customers, colleagues, and external partners.
