Organization and Role Overview:
Oracle GBU Security operations is seeking a Security Engineering Intern. As part of the Global Business Units within the Security Operations Center, you will be part of a global Security Operations & Incident Response team identifying security events and coordinating the response for the relevant technical support groups, businesses at risk and service recovery teams.
The Security Engineering Intern will be responsible for maintaining and monitoring the security posture of the Global Business Units. These responsibilities include analysing data to evaluate risk related aspects of cloud services with respect to of IT security, software security and systems security, researching and provide input for adjusting the security posture of the cloud environments. Using cutting edge tools, the Security Engineering Intern will examine, identify, and understand the nature of cyber-threats such as viruses, worms, bots, root kits and Trojan horses.
The intern will be expected to participate in security project tasks on an as needed basis and interact directly with Security organizations and multiple Lines of Businesses globally.
What You’ll Do:
Assist with developing best practices and security standards for the organization. Understand and contribute to design of cloud components considering best practices around Application Architecture/Threat Modelling/Common Security Frameworks
Perform analysis on logs, traffic flows, and other activities to identify issues and troubleshoot security systems and seek improvements, and perform technical security assessment activities within the cloud environments
Assist with the development and execution of Standard Operating Procedures, Event Handlers and Job Aids required for successful task completion, while performing research & proposing avenues to add security solutions leveraging a CI/CD pipeline
What You’ll Bring: (Objective Minimum Qualifications)
To be considered for a Software Engineer Intern position in the Global Business Unit, you must possess the Objective Minimum Qualifications (OMQs) below. Please ensure that your application clearly indicates that you meet these OMQs, either on your resume and/or by uploading additional documents such as a transcript.
Will be enrolled in a Bachelor's or Master's degree program in Computer Science, Computer Engineering, or an equivalent engineering field during the 2021-2022 school year.
Have completed at least your junior year toward your undergraduate degree, or higher, by summer 2021.
Have no more than 12 months of professional full-time work experience in the technology field (excluding internships, research and/or teaching assistant roles, and military experience). Have coding experience through coursework, projects, internships, or research in at least one of the following programming languages:
o Python, Ruby, HCL, or equivalent
Have completed at least one course, project, internship, or research in computer security or equivalent
Have completed coursework, projects, internship, and/or research in data structures and object-oriented principles.
Have completed coursework, projects, internships, and or research in at least three of the following areas:
o Computer science fundamentals
o Application security
o Cloud computing
o Linux development
Attend a university in the United States
Are a US Citizen or US Green Card holder, as work to be performed for this position relates to federal government contracts
Ideal candidates will also:
Possess an understanding of security standards and risk management, comfortable working in a fast-paced environment with an understanding of best practices and how to implement them at an enterprise level
Possess the ability to adjust and adapt to changing priorities in a dynamic environment, with an understanding of distributed systems, computer networking, and middleware.
Possess technical acumen and the ability to understand and interpret technical specifications and the ability to communicate with software development teams and strong troubleshooting abilities
Have excellent written and verbal communication skills
