You will be joining the Digital Platform Center of Excellence, a new Johnson & Johnson Medical Devices initiative intended to build the digital platform portfolio for the Medical Devices Sector. The Digital Platform COE is building dedicated engineering and product development teams to deliver critical platforms.
The Staff Systems Engineer will work with internal and external development teams to deliver novel orthopedic digital surgery solutions.
Responsible for leading Systems Engineering activities across complex orthopedic digital surgical solutions with a concentration on hardware and software integration including optimizing systems architecture and design as well as surgical workflows.
Ensure adequate modularity by defining technical interface boundaries between complex sub-systems and products, enabling future digital surgery applications.
Guide efficient development, implementation, and integration to assure successful verification, validation and product launch.
In concert with design teams, provide expert guidance on technical management of risks throughout the system lifecycle.
Enhance efficiency and usability of the solution by managing the partitioning of system functions across reusable capital systems and disposable surgical tools.
Improve serviceability and reliability of the system by establishing specific design for servicing and maintenance requirements.
Perform appropriate analysis to ensure the documented architecture is safe and effective.
Generate and present technical material necessary for the comprehension and understanding of stakeholders and users at all levels.
A minimum of a Bachelor’s degree in Engineering or Computer Science is required. A Graduate degree is preferred.
A minimum 6 years of related Engineering/Systems experience is required.
Medical device new product development is required.
Extensive experience with large systems development is required.
Systems development focused on orthopedics, digital surgery, intra operative guidance or software enabled medical devices is preferred.
Experience with design control and requirements management is required.
Knowledge of Usability Engineering is preferred.
Experience with Product Risk Management processes including Hazard Analyses, FMEA and Use Risk Analysis is required.
Experience in leading the development of complex system architectures, workflows and system interfaces including user interfaces is required.
Experience with design verification and validation activities for large systems is required.
Demonstrated effectiveness in collaborating across organizational boundaries and multiple global locations highly preferred.
Position will be based in Boston, Mansfield, or Raynham, MA. or Warsaw, IN and may involve up to 15% domestic and international travel.
