Baystate Health High School Workforce Development Partner in Springfield, Massachusetts

Baystate Health, a nationally recognized leader in healthcare quality and safety, and home to Baystate Medical Center (BMC), and the region's only level 1 trauma center is looking for a full-time High School Workforce Development Partner to join our Workforce Development team in Springfield, MA.

For over 15 years, Baystate Medical Center has conducted the Baystate Springfield Educational Partnership (BSEP) program, a career pathway program designed to help high school students (with a priority on residents of Springfield, MA) pursue a career in health care. The program targets students in grades 9 -12 and serves approximately 150-170 unique students each year. With the High School Workforce Development Partner position, the aim is to build on the foundations of the program to offer more opportunities to high school students, with a particular emphasis on building a cooperative education program.

RESPONSIBILITIES:

Baystate Health, High School Workforce Development Partner will coordinate all aspects of BSEP after school and summer programming in the high school pathway. It will also include coordination of work experiences (paid, unpaid, grant funded, or otherwise supported) developed by the BSEP program students still in high school and a cooperative education program. It will also provide case management for students in these programs. As it relates to student participants, this person will liaison with Baystate Medical Center departments, families, and schools.

In support of these programs, the High School Workforce Development Partner will also be responsible for recruitment, orientation, corresponding special events, data collection, and all communications related to program operations.

As available, the High School Workforce Development Partner will also work with Workforce Planning and the Healthcare Education Office to support school partnerships and development of new programming for high school students.

  • Coordinate all grant and non-grant work placements and administration activities at Baystate and/or program partners, including the BSEP Intern program for graduating seniors and the new cooperative education program.

  • Coordinate all aspects of the BSEP high school programs (grades 9-12). Increase the integration of anatomy, basic math, and project-based learning into program courses. Continue to teach employment skills throughout the program delivery.

  • In conjunction with Manager of Workforce Development, create and maintain a cooperative education program for high school students within Baystate Health entities.

  • Coordinate the summer workshops programs.

  • Execute a calendar of special events to be determined each year, and likely to include program orientations, program cycle celebration events, volunteer recognition, and one-time skills training (e.g., BLS/CPR).

  • Work with Workforce Development manager and other Workforce Planning staff on the development of a grade 9-16 healthcare pipeline in conjunction with current pathway and training programming.

  • Schedule and coordinate recruitment and orientation for the Level I programs.

  • Collect demographic, attendance, program involvement, and academic progress data on all participants

  • Maintain communications with all participants and participant parents/ guardians. Primary method of communication remains email. Coordinate future development of program web site, social media interaction, and print media.

SCHEDULE:

  • 11:00am-7:30pm Monday through Thursday with flexible Friday hours

  • Evening hours are also required for program orientations and special events

QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Bachelors Degree, Required

  • Bilingual, Preferred

  • Masters Degree, preferred

  • BLS CPR Certification, preferred

  • Minimum of 3 years’ experience of youth development and/or education with high school students

  • Prior experience with Public Health initiatives, preferred

  • Prior experience working in a healthcare setting, preferred
