Location/Division Specific Information

Field and Safety Instruments (FSI), a business unit of Thermo Fisher Scientific, is the leader in field based scientific instrumentation and radiation detection equipment. Our products utilize FTIR, Raman, XRF, NIR and LIBS technologies in a handheld format. We design solutions that are used by the military, law enforcement, pharmaceutical manufacturing and industrial clients to assist them in making rapid decisions in the field that assist in making the world healthier, cleaner and safer.

How will you make an impact?

We are rapidly developing IoT solutions that deliver real impact on our customers' business. As an experienced IoT Architect, you will provide technical leadership and roadmap creation for our products, development teams and our R&D organization. Your partnership with marketing and development teams will drive user stories into deployed reality. You will ensure new products seamlessly integrate with solutions and are 'born digital'. Your efforts will impact many product lines, thousands of customers, and make a significant contribution to Thermo Fisher's digital solutions!

What will you do?

  • Lead the transformation of user stories and epics to deployable solutions

  • Design and develop IoT solutions using AWS IoT

  • Architect, design and develop Cloud based backend & UI software and Mobil; coding will be required (30%)

  • Detail technical requirements and specifications for IoT platforms (communication devices, embedded software, edge computing, cloud computing)

  • Bring system level thinking to develop comprehensive solutions that span, instrument, edge, and cloud applications

  • Build and maintain roadmap for IoT and Cloud Solutions for the business, staying ahead of technology advancements

  • Contribute to improving processes and best-practices for SDLC in R&D

  • Works closely with US and offshore teams to provide technical guidance and timely delivery

  • Collaborate across, R&D, technology, marketing, and product support teams

How will you get here?


Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Computer Science, or related discipline; Master's is highly preferred


  • 5+ years of defining and deploying digital solutions in the IoT space

  • Demonstrated ability of Software architecture, design & development in a highly technical and analytical role

  • Experience with AWS environments, services, and applications

  • Edge development experience on IoT Platforms such as AWS IoT Core Knowledge/Experience with Jira, Git, GitLab, GitHub, Confluence, Jenkins

  • Experience with Docker/Kubernetes

  • Proficient in Python, Java or C++ and proven understanding of Linux

  • Experience with messaging systems such as MQTT, REST and Cloud/Web Services

Knowledge, Skills, Abilities

  • Exposure to mobile app development, Android/iOS

  • Highly knowledgeable with embedded systems, RTOS and related programming environments (preferred)

  • Ability to work with external or internal customers to implement large-scale solutions

  • Strong analytical and technical architecture skills including a thorough understanding of how to interpret customer needs and value proposition and translate them into application and operational requirements
