Whole Life Engineering Directorate (WLED) has an opening for a Software Safety Engineer. The Safety Engineering role will support a large scale, real time, Radar program. We have an exciting opportunity for an experienced systems safety engineer to join our safety team. The candidate will have the opportunity to contribute to the multi-disciplinary teams responsible for system safety on a development program. The System Safety engineer performs system safety analysis and tasks per MIL-STD-882 and participate in the design/development process, identify risks and influence design to eliminate or minimize safety hazards. WLED is a systems engineering organization whose main objective is to influence hardware, software, and systems early in their life cycle to assure effective operation, reliability and economical ownership by the customer and end users. Specific tasks responsibilities include: Conduct Safety Analyses and document results (Preliminary Hazards List/Analysis, System Hazard Analysis, Functional Hazard Analysis, Fault Tree Analysis , Safety Assessment Report) Document hazards and maintain Hazard Tracking System Develop Software Safety Requirements and provide requirements analysis and flow-down of Safety requirements and attributes in the Dynamic Object Oriented Requirements System (DOORS) Perform code analyses to determine whether code is safety significant Support Configuration Review Boards Participate in System Safety Working Groups and Technical Interchange Meetings Develop Technical Data Packages and Presentations for Safety Board Reviews Represent System Safety Engineering and present results of safety analysis at formal program design reviews (Preliminary Design Review/Critical Design Review) Document and report residual risk to Risk Acceptance Authority This position can be an G07 - Systems Eng II or a G08 - Sr Systems Eng I based on the candidate’s qualifications as they relate to the skills, experience and responsibilities required for the position. Required Skills: 2 years technical experience as a System Safety Engineer, Software Engineer, Systems Engineer or equivalent, on a major weapon/combat system development program. Understanding of Requirements, the DOORS database tool, and Systems Engineering Existing Secret Security Clearance or ability to obtain it Experience with a wide application of technical theories and concepts related to system safety engineering and combat/weapon systems design. Desired Skills: Operational experience with U.S. Army, Navy, Marine Corps, or Air Force combat/weapon systems and Ordnance. Experience conducting and documenting analyses Knowledge of MIL-HDBK-454, MIL-STD-1427, MIL-STD-1474, Missile Defense Agency Assurance Provisions (MAP), MIL-STD-464, Joint Software System Safety Committee (JSSSC) Handbook, MIL-STD-1425, and AMCOM 385-17. Experience with DOORS, Web-based Software Trouble Report (WSTR) System, and Proposal development. Experience Software System Safety Technical Review Panels (SSSTRP) or Software Materiel Release activities. Experience planning, performing analyses, and reporting results IAW MIL-STD-882 Experience and familiarity with Safety Engineering and Safety Design concepts Required Education (including Major): Bachelor's degree in Engineering, Science, Mathematics, or a Technical discipline. 8 years of related field experience may be considered in lieu of a BA/BS This position requires either a U.S. Person or a Non-U.S. Person who is eligible to obtain any required Export Authorization. 123030
