The Financial Crimes Unit (FCU) brings together our Cybersecurity, Fraud, Physical Security and Resilience Planning capabilities to address the ever-growing and increasingly complex global security environment. It is a highly collaborative effort that greatly enhances BMO’s ability to rapidly prevent, detect, respond to, and recover from all security & crisis threats. This is a leadership opportunity in cyber threat intelligence where you will become an expert in understanding BMO's future threat landscape, and influence executive decision-making to help ensure BMO is prepared to defend against future cyber threats. You are passionate about forward leaning research and analyzing threats and developing, maintaining and strengthening external relationships while fostering intelligence-sharing partnerships with government agencies, industry partners and law enforcement across the globe. This is a "build" role where you will mature the threat intel function at BMO.
In this strategic role, you will provide analysis and reporting services in support of businesses/groups and BMO overall and build relationships and liaise with stakeholders to understand problems/ opportunities and recommend solutions to enable the organization to meet its goals. You will analyze data and create documents and plans in service of informing, advising, or updating internal stakeholders and ensure that requirements map to a real business need, are approved by all relevant stakeholders, and meet essential quality standards. In addition, you will participate or conduct user acceptance testing to ensure that changes made are in alignment with business requirements. While providing great customer service in support of the information security processes, applications and infrastructure.
We have offices in New Jersey, New York, and Chicago. If you reside outside of those cities, you can work 100% remotely
Acts as a trusted advisor to senior leaders for making business decisions and implementing strategic initiatives.
Acts as a subject matter expert on relevant regulations and policies.
Develops an expert understanding of business/group challenges.
Networks with industry contacts to gather competitive insights and best practices.
Provides specialized analytical support to senior management.
Understands and can explain to others the core processes, risks and mitigation techniques for designated areas.

Conducts independent analysis and assessment to resolve strategic issues.
Acts as the prime contact for internal/external stakeholder relationships, which may include regulators.
Breaks down strategic problems, and analyses data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
Defines business requirements for analytics and reporting to ensure data insights inform business decision making.
Analyzes trends to proactively prevent problems.
Presents and communicates at all levels within IT and across business units.
Oversees the preparation of end user reference materials and training materials.
Develops innovative approaches to resolve problems and significant issues.
Works with vendors to troubleshoot issues, as required.
Assesses the quality of reports submitted and provides related coaching and support.
Troubleshoots information security issues within designated business group.
Gathers requirements and documents these requirements for use in various audits, reports, & projects.
Identifies opportunities to strengthen the capability of the information security organization at BMO, such as: sharing expertise to promote technical development, mentoring employees, building communities of practice and networks across information security and technology.
Works with internal stakeholders to validate their requirements via techniques such as reviews and walkthroughs.
Facilitates discussions and follows a structured approach to plan, elicit, analyze, document, communicate and manage requirements.
Analyzes data and information to provide insights and recommendations.
Collects, organizes, analyzes and disseminates significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy.
Develops and implements data collection systems and other strategies that optimize statistical efficiency and data quality.
Identifies, analyzes, and interprets trends or patterns in complex data sets.
Provides analytical support and insights.
Filters and "cleans" data, and reviews reports and key performance indicators to locate and correct data issues.
Performs documentation writing and maintenance of new and existing processes, procedures and requirements.
Recommends approaches to streamline and integrate information security processes in the organization to improve overall efficiency.
Remains alert to new information security technologies and threats that present risk to the enterprise and determines the best approach to mitigate these risks.
Stays abreast of industry trends/risks related to information security, technology and business trends / risks through participation in professional associations, practice communities & individual learning.
Ensures consistent, high quality practices/work and the achievement of business results in alignment with business/group strategies and with productivity goals.
Operates at a group/enterprise-wide level and serves as a senior specialist resource across BMO.

Min of 5-8 years experience in the financial crimes threat landscape, and how it relates to an organization
Outstanding understanding of how cyber threats impact the business, financial services sector, and critical infrastructure.
Min of 5-8 years experience with the creation and delivery of intelligence products and briefs to support a wide range of stakeholders.
5-8 years experience in collaborating with government and industry cyber threat intelligence partners which you have leveraged to enable your understanding of the cyber threat landscape within an organization.
5-8 year of experience in the production of strategic-level all-source profiles on threat actor activities with strong expertise in their operational capabilities and tactics, techniques, and procedures (TTP) in order to support planning and operational procedures to respond to threats.
2-3 years of experience as a liaison to the industry, government, law enforcement, academia, and other identified entities to facilitate information sharing. You must have strong experience on engaging with external entities to explain cybersecurity incidents, threats, trends, policy, or research.
Demonstrated experience building a strong network within and outside (sector, government, etc) an organization.
Expertise with developing and leading the external coordination and liaison strategy within an organization and building and managing the external partnerships
Strong experience with actively participating in industry working groups, and forums
Expertise with developing and maintaining relationships within an organization as well as external entities, regulators, legal, compliance and privacy.
Outstanding critical thinking skills. Must be able to convey complex information in a clear, concise manner. Familiarity with structured analytical techniques is an asset
Exceptional research, analysis and writing skills, preferably in intelligence or security related matters.
Experience building collaboration across internal and external function areas
Advanced familiarity with cyber security principles and issues. Cyber security certifications or equivalent demonstrable experience is a plus.
Self-motivated, team player with good interpersonal skills. Must be able to work with initiative and independently under pressure. Must be able to work with minimal supervision.
Ability to multi-task and complete a variety of time sensitive assignments.
Strong knowledge of banks and the financial service sector is preferred.
Typically 9+ years of relevant experience and a post-secondary degree in Information Security, Computer Science, Engineering, Information Systems, Business or in a related field of study or an equivalent combination of education and experience.
Multiple Information Security certifications from a well-recognized institution (e.g. (ISC)2, ISACA, SANS). Additional certifications in related fields preferred.
Expert in information security, technology, business requirements gathering and reporting in a financial services setting.
Data manipulation and analysis skills with the ability to collect, organize, analyze and disseminate significant amounts of information with attention to detail and accuracy - Expert.
Knowledge of Information Security processes, procedures and controls - Expert.
Understanding and problem-solving ability of Information Security issues across the bank - Expert.
Understanding of industry standards and frameworks e.g. NIST Cyber Security Framework (CSF), ISO 27001 and 27002 - Expert.
