How will you make an impact?

The Legal Counsel will provide advice on legal issues, risk management and contracts to support Thermo Fisher’s Digital and Technology strategic execution across the company.

This role will make an impact on technology and legal issues related to digital marketing, information technology, Software as a Service, cybersecurity, AI, data governance and analytics, technology commercialization and process improvement, among other things, across Thermo Fisher’s many businesses and products.

A person who builds positive relationship, can work collaboratively cross-functionally, can influence through indirect authority, and communicates optimally will have the biggest impacts.

Key Responsibilities:

  • Provides strategic support to this new and growing legal team with a key voice in resolving how Thermo Fisher’s legal strategy and team will develop in this area.

  • Drafts, reviews, and negotiates commercial and intellectual property-focused agreements with discernment supporting Thermo Fisher’s Technology and Digital business initiatives in the areas of Digital Marketing, Digital Partnerships, B2B Digital Agreements, social media, Digital Products and Services.

  • Serves a product counseling role for digital properties (web, apps, etc.), digitally integrated equipment (IoT), product integrations, SaaS, telehealth, AI/ML, and data analytics as an initial point of contact for various business teams.

  • Works across the Thermo Fisher Legal team including Division commercial attorneys, regional attorneys, Corporate subject matter authorities including HR Legal, IP, and Data Privacy & Compliance, Litigation and Regulatory professionals.

  • Uses legal tools, program governance and processes to automate legal service delivery and develops new legal processes, approaches, templates, playbooks to drive efficiency.

  • Participate in due diligence and other activities relating to M&A and integration activities.

Education and Experience:

  • Law degree required. Admission to a state bar or international equivalent required.

  • 5-6 years of experience in technology/digital-focused commercial contracts and product counseling. Meaningful experience in Digital Marketing environments is a plus. Familiarity with Privacy and Cyber Security issues a plus.

  • Ability to develop strong, positive working relationships with the business and legal teammates.

  • Ability to work remotely and across highly distributed teams across several time zones.

  • Ability to exercise good commercial judgment, be solutions-minded, have a bias for action and have a creative approach to problem-solving.

  • No experience working in life sciences required.
