Thermo Fisher Scientific IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology in Waltham, Massachusetts

The IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology is aligned to the business within the Pharma Services Group Digital and Data Services team. The IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology is responsible for setting up the next generation innovation approach for group to deliver capabilities at speed to scale. This role will establish consistent release processes for our group applications ensuring they are properly supported.

The IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology serves technical leader implementing the technical design to meet the business requirements of the group applications. The IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology is a key technology role; they will ensure the integrity of the technology ecosystem. This role will responsible for building an architecture that enables integration and transparency across the landscape. This role works with their stakeholders at several organizational levels. The IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology, works with business area leadership and governance teams to understand requirements, shape releases, and provide a high-level estimate of the release effort and resource requirements. IT Business Lead: Innovation and Technology works with global and local IT resources to deliver solutions that match the business strategy with the technology strategy.

The IT Business Lead: Group Product Implementation is accountable for ensuring effective delivery and support of the overall technology solution for the Pharma Services Group Client. They are also accountable for creating strategy for end of life applications.


  • Build, implement, and own establishing an innovation model that supports quick delivery.

  • Ensure that the setup and configuration of development, testing, staging and production environments exist and are leveraged to deliver required capabilities.

  • Define and implement a consistent and repeatable process for automating infrastructure setup, configuration and deployments

  • Anticipate operational problems by monitoring system performance and studying operating targets. Recommend solutions to identified operational problems and implement accordingly

  • Work closely with engineering teams to manage system lifecycle including change and configuration management

  • Troubleshoot any emergency infrastructure incidents to achieve optimal application performance and stability, following escalation procedures as required

  • Ensure all processes, services, and software deployments are compliant with security and privacy regulations as required

  • Co-ordinate with multidisciplinary operations and engineering teams, both internally and with vendors, in an agile fast-paced environment to deliver reliable, high-performing solutions

  • Provide expert guidance to all internal and external IT and engineering stakeholders


  • Self-motivated with the ability to work autonomously in a fast-paced environment

  • Building strong relationships; excellent interpersonal skills and communication skills, including written, verbal and presentation skills

  • Requires good knowledge of company functions globally and a deep understanding of the relationships and processes integration among departments within the business.

  • Requires ability to implement product life cycle management process

  • Requires extensive experience with SAP suite of products, Oracle and new digital concepts

  • Requires ability to lead effectively during challenging times and periods of change.

  • Requires ability to speak, listen and write in a clear, concise, thoroughand timely manner using appropriate and effective communication tools andtechniques.

  • Requires extensive knowledge of master data governance principles, processes and technology

  • Requires ability to influence internal and external contacts on services including but not limited to, technology, and vendor management groups.

  • Requires ability to manage competing priorities.

  • Requires ability to overcome obstacles and achieve key outcomes and follow through to get things done and deliver what is promised.

  • Navigating a large IT department with a high number of technologies and technical disciplines

  • Facilitating innovation in business process and technical solution delivery

  • Experience building AWS based, scalable, and highly available distributed infrastructure for high traffic web applications and data analytics platforms

  • Knowledge of infrastructure security and monitoring

  • Hands on experience in shell scripting and at least one scripting language (Python or Ruby)

  • Experience leading a matrix team of professionals and communicating with various levels of management is highly desired. Ability to work with all levels of the organization, both technical and non-technical.

  • More than 10 years working experience developing and supporting Business Intelligence and large Data Warehouse environments.

  • More than 5 years working in the Pharmaceuticals or Life Sciences industry (preferred)

  • Bachelor's Degree in the field of information technology, engineering, computer science and / or business administration (required)

  • Proven ability in a high growth business and developing teams to scale and deliver on commitments

  • Advanced degree in business or technology, such as an MBA (preferred).

  • Travel 20%
