The Lead Solution Architect is accountable to design business solutions in response to specific that are fit for purpose, compliant and adhere to all National Grid operational, architectural and design standards and principles. Ensure the integrity of solution designs from concept through implementation, balancing the architectural concerns of projects with concerns of the enterprise. Ensure consideration of all design alternatives and provide technical guidance to wider project team and business stakeholders
Identify, own and support the delivery of global solutions for assigned projects under the direction of a principal solution architect with accountability to project and solution development managers/directors
Provide all design related services, at the blueprinting level, for 1 or more projects under the direction of a principal solution architect, project manager and/or the head of solution architecture
Maintain the integrity and quality of solution designs through detail design, build, test and implementation
Govern the solution architecture through implementation
Guide business stakeholders to solutions that will maximize National Grid investment in technology
Provide thought leadership on innovative technical solutions to business stakeholders
Identify options that maximize reuse and minimize overheads to operating budgets
Ensure that solutions conform to National Grid enterprise Architecture and comply to National Grid policy
Promote the strategic vision of Enterprise Architecture

- Secure all required approvals of solution design and implementation
o Bachelor’s or Master’s degree in computer science, geographic information science or related discipline or an equivalent combination of education, training, and experience
o Relevant industry certifications are desirable, including: certifications for TOGAF, Microsoft Azure Solution Architect, Powershell and ESRI Enterprise System Design
Knowledge & Experience Required:
o 7-10 years of experience architecting, implementing, administrating and supporting enterprise IT-GIS solutions/systems that leverage the ArcGIS enterprise platform
o 5+ years of hands-on experience with ESRI software, including ArcGIS Enterprise, Portal for ArcGIS, ArcGIS Runtime and their associated APIs or interfaces
o Experience in platform architecture, solution design, project envisioning, planning, developing, deployment, security, identity management, cloud computing and scalability in agile and waterfall projects
o Firm grasp of software development lifecycle management, application lifecycle management and DevOps tools, technologies and techniques (e.g., BitBucket and Ansible)
o Experience applying standard architectures and patterns within solution designs
o Extensive understanding of Microsoft SQL, Windows environments, Citrix and Azure cloud services
o Knowledge of basic networking concepts and design practices including; HTTP/S, TCP/IP, load balancers, firewalls and proxies.
o Knowledge of geospatial and mapping concepts, theories and terminology, such as spatial analysis, map projections and network analysis
o Background with current technology implementation patterns including service-oriented architectures and cloud-hybrid configurations
o Professional excellence in technical consulting, business analysis techniques and tools, requirements gathering, solution design, project envisioning, planning, development, and deployment (i.e., particularly in the utility business)
o Expertise with GIS integration techniques and technologies to other asset and work management solutions (e.g., IBM Maximo via ArcGISDataSync and Salesforce/DNV-GL/CSS via Mulesoft)
o Ability to effectively evaluate of products, vendors and technology rollouts
o Advanced knowledge of ESRI’s Utility Network Database Model, Schneider’s ArcFM application, and mobile GIS solutions (i.e., particularly Critigen’s mobile GIS product, Lemur)
o Strong proficiency with migrating and conflating GIS data from non-ESRI applications (GE SmallWorld and NRG) to ESRI applications
