National Grid is seeking a Manager, Risk and Controls for a position within the Transformation Office group at our Waltham location .

Job Purpose

National Grid’sTransformation Office is the start of a movement inside National Grid. Led by the Chief Transformation Officer, this team will help us reshape the business and move faster on our journey of becoming a more customer-centric, clean energy company. It encompasses the major system and process implementations. One of the first programs is Gas Business Enablement (GBE). GBE we’ll ensure we deliver safe and reliable heat and more affordable and create enduring change so we’re more customer-centric in how we manage our business.

The GBE program is a multi-year initiative investing in the future of National Grid’s US Gas Business by modernizing and standardizing technology systems and processes. The Risk and Controls team within the GBE program performs review of the future state processes, evaluates the risk and works with the program leads and Gas Business to develop controls that will be imbedded into the new systems and associated processes. This is an important role and integral to the sustainability of the GBE solution.

The role of Risk and Controls Manager is instrumental in leading the identification of risks in the future state processes within individual Transformation programs. Once risks are identified they will collaborate with key leads from the program and business to help in the implementation of key operational, financial and regulatory controls, specifically starting with the GBE program. The individual, operating in a complex system implementation environment, will need to collaborate with all levels of leadership to ensure strategy is aligned with the Project’s goals and team strategy. The Manager will also work closely with the Business Readiness teams, IT teams, broader GBU leads and all assurance partners.

Key Accountabilities

  • Manage team members in their understanding of process and system changes and identification of key operational, financial and regulatory risks.

  • Assist in the design of effective key controls to mitigate risks. (Manual business process + automated/ITGC controls)

  • Engage workstreams to validate controls within their processes and identify control owner and operators.

  • Track testing of controls through E2E or UAT testing environments and help Business readiness teams prepare training documents.

  • Use of project management skills to lead tracking and reporting of progress through a suite of tools used by project.

Supervisory/Interpersonal- Experience Required

  • Ability to engage, challenge and influence employees.

  • Skilled in project management.

  • Skilled in stakeholder engagement.

Qualifications

  • 10+ years’ experience in risk and controls identification.

  • BS in Finance, Accounting, or Engineering or equivalent experience

  • Demonstrate strong leadership and problem-solving skills with the ability to solve complex problems

  • Demonstrate excellent organizational and planning skills with the proven ability to manage multiple priorities and complex projects of significant scope.

  • Valid driver’s license required

  • Ability to research, compile, coordinate, schedule, review, document and organize.

  • Demonstrate excellent oral and written communication skills including the ability to communicate effectively both internally

  • and externally to the organization; may include presentation skills.

  • Experienced and strong understanding of operational/ financial / IT controls.

  • Ability to communicate at all levels of management.

  • Accountable to advice on control solutions and lead teams

  • Ability to manage multiple tasks and projects simultaneously required

  • Strong problem solving, and analytical skill capabilities preferred.

  • Knowledge of Gas business processes, risk and controls or ITGCs.

  • Basic knowledge of Agile methodology is a plus.

  • 50 - 75% travel
