POSITION OVERVIEW

The Associate Engineer reports to the Director of Process Development and focuses on optimization and scale-up of Lipid Nanoparticle (LNP) formulations in support of all therapeutic and vaccine related programs at Sanofi.

KEY RESPONSIBILITIES

  • Lead and support the optimization and scale-up of Bulk Drug Product (BDP) formulation and Final Drug Product (FDP) processes encompassing a wide range of different DS and multi-component LNPs

  • Perform routine and complex analytical methods with minimal supervision

  • Keep detailed records using an electronic laboratory notebook

  • Present experimental results to group and CMC teams as needed

  • Critical thinking and analysis of data will be central to all aspects of this position

  • Design, procure, and maintain equipment in the Process Development lab and pilot plant

  • Produce materials that is representative of cGMP material and suitable for nonclinical studies including GLP toxicology studies

  • Assist with preparation of technical reports and presentations to clearly communicate scientific findings as needed

BASIC QUALIFICATIONS:

  • BS/MS degree, preferably in Chemical Engineering/Biochemistry or in a similar field is required

  • 2 – 4 years' experience working in a process development or tech transfer environment is required

COMPETENCIES / SKILLS FOR SUCCESS:

  • Capable of working in a collaborative team environment both within group and on interdisciplinary teams

  • Desire to work in a fast-paced environment

  • Excellent organizational and communication skills

  • Strong analytical and problem-solving skills

  • Ability to present findings to a diverse scientific group in a clear and concise manner is necessary

PREFERRED QUALIFICATIONS:

  • Candidate with process development knowledge is highly desirable

  • Experience with LNP formulations of mRNA/siRNA would be beneficial

  • Previous work with mRNA (handling/isolation/quantification/characterization) is desired

  • Knowledge of mRNA and LNP characterization methods preferred

WORK ENVIRONMENT AND PHYSICAL DEMANDS

Work is performed in an office and laboratory environment with routine lab physical demands and normal exposure to everyday risks and discomfort requiring common safety precautions.
