Kelly Services Systems Administrator in Waltham, Massachusetts

Kelly Project Services is looking for a Systems Administrator to support one of our top clients in Boston, MA.

I. To support an HPC setup local to ISI Boston. The job would require:

§ Knowledge of slurm

§ Knowledge of ansible

§ Knowledge of diagnosing problems with GPU drivers

§ Knowledge of linux + scripting sufficient for cluster support

§ Ability to work independently

§ Strong communication

§ Coordinating tasking via Github issues and project boards; Familiarity with github (both the web interface and use from the command line) is helpful.

II. Regular tasks:

§ Addressing, triaging, and planning to address issues as they arise

  1. 1 hour spent on the triaging/addressing of new issues as they arise (typically 2-3 issues a week. Most are “the machine needs to be restarted”, but occasionally there are requests for a larger feature). Larger issues get deferred and planned in the “planning task” below.

  2. 1 hour a week spent on triaging backlog (until done)

  3. 4 hours/ spent providing a more detail plan for medium/large issues. The plan needs to include how the issue will be solved (including I need to research X) and an estimate of how long it will take.

§ For maintenance weeks, 10 hours spent on maintenance. Maintenance involves using ansible to run a series of updates that rolls out new features and/or takes care of YUM security updates.

II. Longer term tasks/larger tasks:

§ The leads associated with the cluster have a number of larger projects we would like done. The first is using slurm’s accounting database, configurations, & fairsharetree algorithm to set up a custom prioritization.

§ Other things that need to be addressed are: better logging for users; investigating whether Singularity would allow us to run dockers (and if not, considering alternatives)

As needed providing PI support when the PI is interested in a new class of hardware.

Compensation is $75/hour, DOE. This position does come w/ benefits and PTO.
