The Systems Engineer install, configure, monitor, and administer computer systems that support the university's administrative and academic needs. Engineers and implements new systems and applications for the university, as required. Acts as lead technologist in their area of responsibility acting as a high level support technician when needed. Responsible for the day-to-day operations including responding to trouble tickets, and service requests. Provides 3rd tier support escalations across for internal ITS Department customers as well as system administrators in other university departments Examples of Key Responsibilities: Manages central computer systems. Ensures system security, stability, and performance. Responsible for day the day to day operations including responding to service request tickets and escalations across all centrally maintained systems. Develops new systems, programs and applications for the university as required. Designs and maintains new storage and information systems to support academic and administrative needs. Responsible for providing support and advice to system administrators in other departments. Educations & Work Experience: B.A./B.S. required Work Experience: 3-5 years related work experience Must be able to lift 40 lbs. What You Need to Succeed Must have experience with design and deployment of critical service infrastructure across multiple machine rooms using load balancing technology and high-availability best practices. Advanced Linux and Windows administration skill, including hardware and software, preferably RedHat Enterprise Linux and Windows Server, Familiarity with single sign on and account management such as LDAP, Active Directory, and Cosign. Advanced virtualization systems experience and best practices in large-scale deployments, preferably VMWare an Citrix XenServer. Advanced networking skills including DNS, TCP/IP, firewalls, load balancing, preferably Cisco ACE experience. Familiarity with system monitoring and performance reporting software such as Hyperic. Intermediate software development and scripting ability. Knowledge of SAN, NAS and storage networking, including NetApp and Compellent. Familiarity with backup and backup systems such as Avamar. Writing and communication skills with the ability to create effective technical documentation for both internal and external use.
