Danaher Corporation Software Development Manager in Westborough, Massachusetts

Position Objective

The Software Development Manager will be responsible the requirements, planning and execution phases of technology and full product life cycle of commercial IoT and digital product development. This role will be responsible for Leading coordinating and liaising activities between various organizational teams from concept development through launch. The Software Development Manager will ensure that highly visible and business critical projects are executed in a manner consistent with the defined product development processes in a diverse, cross functional, and global team environment. This position reports to the Sr. Director/Program Manager of the Digital Program.

Essential Job Functions:

  • Manage a diverse and distributed team to develop and deliver multiple high priority, high visibility projects simultaneously

  • Create a culture of innovation, continuous improvement, and an environment conducive of associate high performance, development, and growth.

  • Provide technical guidance, and grow the expertise of your teams in architecture, performance, scalability, maintainability, and experimentation

  • Attract, manage, and retain diverse talent by developing programs that support career development and recruiting strategies

  • Create and manage department and project estimates and budgets, work closely with Finance partner to forecast, track and report expenditures

  • Create an environment that empowers and energizes team members, with a focus on accountability, adaptability, and collaboration

  • Collaborate with cross functional teams like product management, sales, and key stakeholders such as product management, sales and customer success to identify and achieve strategic business outcomes

  • Responsible for communicating project status and technical approach to a broad audience within the Company and externally, including senior management.

  • Identify recurring issues and opportunities to improve engineering process, employees’ success, and business outcomes

Minimum Qualifications:

  • 7+ years of hands-on experience in software development organization

  • 3+ years of experience architecting and designing (architecture, design patterns, reliability, and scaling) of new and current systems

  • 3+ years of demonstrated track record successfully hiring, managing, coaching, and retaining software engineers

  • Proficient with the entire SDLC, including successful product launches, iterations of existing products, Agile software development, continuous improvement, and continuous delivery

  • Excellent written and verbal communication skills with the ability to present complex technical information in a clear and concise manner to a variety of audiences

  • Strong leadership and stage-gate based project management foundation across multiple technology areas from initial concept to commercial launch

  • Distinct track record of operational excellence, setting and achieving aggressive short and long-term goals in dynamic, high-urgency, high-growth environments, and shipping software on time

  • B.S. or M.S. in Computer Science/Software Engineering or related field

Preferred Qualifications:

  • 3+ years of experience in developing with IoT technology stack on PaaS/SaaS services on AWS/Azure cloud

  • Deep technical expertise in designing cloud-based software architectures for scalability, reliability, and performance; cloud based distributed software design and development using AWS platform services

  • Strong knowledge of professional software engineering practices & best practices for the full software development life cycle, including coding standards, code reviews, source control management, Dev/Sec/Ops adoption and bridging the gap between traditional waterfall and agile.

  • Experience anticipating industry and technology trends, capability prioritization and trade-offs, balancing business needs versus technical risk and resource constraints

  • Prior experience communicating department vision and strategy in bold, persuasive terms to gain buy-in within the organization and from external stakeholders

Other Requirements:

  • To work safely and to comply with the company’s health, safety and environmental (HSE) policies and procedures.

  • Periodic domestic and international travel as required.

  • Proficient in communicating with and presenting to senior leadership.

  • Collaborate with teams distributed across multiple work locations (including international).
