RedHat Release Engineer in Westford, Massachusetts
The Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) Build team within the Software Production (SP) team is looking for a Release Engineer to join us in Westford, MA. In this role, you will deliver Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) offerings to Red Hat’s customers and strategic partners using innovative tooling and infrastructure. You will partner with your development, quality engineering (QE), and site reliability engineering (SRE) colleagues to streamline tooling, improve releases of our offerings, and guide team processes. You will focus on standardizing processes and creating solutions for product teams by delivering changes in a timely and methodical manner. As a Release Engineer, you’ll need to have passion for technology and development, balanced with the responsibility for improving the processes and procedures that support releases of our offerings. You will work in a fast-paced and sometimes chaotic environment, with the goal of making our end users and customers more effective with each release. You’ll have the opportunity to develop and enhance our tooling.
Primary job responsibilities
Build various artifacts for Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL) and multiple other Red Hat’s offerings while ensuring that content is delivered on time and to specification
Setup the build infrastructure for new offerings while maintaining and improving the existing infrastructure needed to continue building and shipping current offerings
Contribute to release engineering tooling to deliver and improve the functionality
Work with the product owner of your team to understand and scope stakeholder requests
Guide new processes and procedures in the solutions space to improve the quality, consistency, and automation of building artifacts for release
Work in a hybrid cloud environment where your software interacts with bare metal platforms as well as virtualized platforms like Red Hat OpenStack Platform and Red Hat OpenShift
Help the team adopt continuous integration (CI) and continuous development (CD) methodologies
Collaborate with users of our tools and other stakeholders to find solutions to their problems
Collaborate with multiple teams within Red Hat and upstream open source communities on relevant projects
Work in a fast-paced environment where timely deliverables are as important as the big ideas for potential growth
Bachelor's degree in computer science or equivalent experience
Experience with Linux command line tools and utilities; knowledge of shell (Bash) and command line text processing (grep, awk, sed, etc.)
Comfortable with Python
Familiarity with Git or other version control systems
Basic understanding of the continuous integration (CI) process
Experience with automation tools and frameworks like Jenkins and Red Hat Ansible Automation Platform
Ability to troubleshoot technical issues and debug problems on your own as well as with your colleagues
Excellent written and verbal communication skills in English, as you'll be working in a globally distributed team
Excellent interpersonal skills; ability to directly interact with other teams
Ability to help define, follow, and enforce processes and documentation
Ability to work under pressure, for example debugging and fixing issues during product releases
Ability to provide constructive feedback and understand criticism that directly impacts our business goals
The following will be considered a plus:
Experience with Red Hat Enterprise Linux (RHEL)
Experience with koji and modularity
Technical background in tools like JIRA, Confluence, and Red Hat Ansible Tower
Previous experience building and releasing multiple offerings in a production environment
