The Senior Manager, BRM is a critical leadership role in our client’s Corporate IT organization. The IT Business Relationship Manager acts as a business partner who shares ownership for both IT and business strategy to ensure IT is delivering the appropriate services that drive business value and results. The BRM owns business leadership relationships and serves as a single point of focus and is working to one or more lines of business or value streams. This is achieved by stimulating, surfacing, and shaping demand for capabilities that support the business short-term and long-term activities.

Additionally, BRMs shape business demand into supply by 1) partnering with appropriate resources to facilitate the creation of idea documents, business cases, and value plans; 2) ensuring value optimization and communication; and 3) enabling continuous improvement in all areas and people around them.

An individual fulfilling the BRM role should have the competencies required to advance the BRM capability, which is everything it takes, both visible and behind the scenes, to nurture relationships, creating a limitless supply of energy necessary to evolve culture, build partnerships, drive value, and satisfy purpose.

Responsibilities:

  • Working with BRM organizational leader, participate in the establishment of the BRM function for our client’s.

  • Develop the appropriate processes and tools to deliver on results and to establish value management as a strategic organizational capability.

  • Own the strategic relationship between IT and the organization business leaders (partners) to stimulate, surface, and shape demand for IT services.

  • Strategize with partners to develop future roadmaps and explore new opportunities, converging organization-wide strategic direction into one set of objectives.

  • Partner with the Service leaders to identify opportunities to evaluate, sequence, and shape initiatives for strategic value.

  • Define and communicate strategic initiatives and oversee the development of long-term plans and proposals to ensure effective implementation and business results.

  • Drive decision-making and facilitate investment planning and annual project planning (initiatives) that help the business achieve desired results.

  • Align each initiative to the organizational strategy to validate the desired and expected results. This can be achieved through business case development, financial awareness, managing expectations, the identification of opportunities to grow value, or a combination of these.

  • Develop deep domain knowledge of each partner’s organizational functions and through fact-based data, able to identify and recommend improvements and changes in the solutions and services provided.

  • Focus on value over solutions. Emphasize value when developing ideas, evaluating risk, and evolving needs. Knowledge of trends and developments in the fields of customer experience, employee experience, data and analytics, and digital workplace technologies.

  • Information management and quantitative skills, including working knowledge of IT infrastructure, various technologies/platforms, and enterprise-specific vendor solutions.

  • Lead all Line of Business meetings to discuss demand, initiative progress and health of IT services.

  • Monitor initiative progress to ensure expectations are aligned with results and, ultimately, value.

  • Engage as a project/program major partner including evaluating development efforts and progress against strategic plans and value creation objectives.

  • Coach organization leaders to articulate their vision and requirements to drive the organizational value (e.g., people, process, data, and technology).

Qualifications

  • Bachelor’s degree in Computer Science, Information Systems, or equivalent. Advanced degree desirable

  • 10+ years of relevant IT experience

  • 5+ years of experience championing organizational change, e.g., leading initiatives, products, services, or interactions

  • Prior Business Process Engineering/Optimization experience a plus (e.g., Six Sigma, TQM, BPR, etc.)

  • Skilled and experienced at conflict negotiation and problem solving

  • Deep expertise in multi-year investment planning, portfolio prioritization, and initiative planning for business and IT.

  • Business Relationship Management Professional (BRMP®) or Certified Business Relationship Manager (CBRM®) with Certificates of Experience preferred

  • Master of relationship building and team collaboration with an ability to listen, build rapport, and develop credibility as a strategic partner

  • Able to quickly establish rapport, credibility, trust, and respect throughout the organization at all levels.

  • Ability to break down silos both inside and outside an organization

  • Ability to fluctuate between the four mindsets of an explorer, investor, cultivator, and connector

  • Ability to focus on purpose, value, and results, rather than solutions

  • Strong verbal and written communication skills with ability to present complex information in understandable way to all levels of the organization is required.

  • Ability to set expectations with partners and achieve alignment and agreement

  • Strong attention to detail and sense of urgency
