Description: A Sr. Systems Engineer role located in Wilmington, MA is currently available through Belcan. The Sr. Systems Engineer will work with our Design team to develop a variety of innovative Unmanned Systems for defense and commercial applications. This position will interact with Electrical, Embedded Software and Controls Engineers to allocate requirements and develop architectures to drive product development. These development efforts will generally be small focused design teams, which will require engineers to use a range of skills and tools across traditional engineering, computer science, and mathematical disciplines. Because of the nature of the development efforts, the engineer will need to work on a variety of stages of development including requirements definition, concept design, prototyping, detailed design, validation and verification testing.

Sr. Systems Engineer duties:

  • Manage requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle

  • Provide weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn down

  • Work with Senior Staff Engineers to allocate requirements to subsystem level

  • Evaluate system performance thresholds and provide direction

  • Work with software and electrical engineers in developing verification test plans and acceptance

test plans

  • Provide input for model development and simulation analysis

  • Review and interpret customer specification effectively

  • Identifies, analyzes and resolves system design weaknesses. Influences the shaping of future

products by contributing to the framework (architecture) used across multiple products or


  • Work on complex issues where analysis of situations or data requires an evaluation of intangibles

  • Exercise judgment in selecting methods, techniques and evaluation criteria for obtaining results

  • Determine methods and procedures on new assignments and may coordinate activities of other

personnel (Team Lead)

  • Exposure to Guidance Navigation and Control Systems along with Modeling Simulation & Control

and Model-Based Systems Engineering is helpful but not required

  • Knowledge of Altium software is preferred

  • Strong Python, C, or C++ programming skills are preferred

  • Hands on design/build experience is desired; UAV or R/C aircraft or other lightweight miniature

robotic systems

  • Other duties as assigned


  • Bachelor's degree in Mathematics, Computer Science/Engineering, Electrical Engineering, or

Controls Engineering is required or equivalent combination of education, training, and experience

  • Proficiency with office software and productivity tools including Visio

  • Has managed requirements traceability and evolution through the system development cycle

  • Provided an effective weekly status of system development progress with requirements burn


  • Allocated requirements to electrical, GNC, and or software subsystems

  • Evaluated system performance thresholds, conduct trade studies and provide direction based on


  • Developed and managed power budgets

  • Familiarity with electronics and systems related to image collection and analysis

  • Experience trouble-shooting complex electrical or software systems

  • Has developed systems test plans, procedures, and reports and reviewed and interpreted


  • Must be a US Person
