UniFirst Corporation is seeking an experienced and highly qualified Vice President of Applications Development who is results-oriented and able to bring innovative approaches to our UniFirst Corporation’s application development organization.Reporting to the CIO,The VP of Application Development will lead and develop all of the employees supporting the full lifecycle on business applications across the enterprise including multiple ERP systems, enterprise level CRM, HR, Financial, Supply Chain applications, SharePoint collaboration environments, and eCommerce and intranet websites. The VP will oversee the full cycle responsibility for key applications with emphasis on the design, develop, test, deploy, and operate phases of the solution development lifecycle including each portfolio.
As a member of the IT Senior Leadership Team, the VP is an influential role, making investment and priority trade-off decisions, negotiating, and managing vendor contracts, and recruiting and developing high performing teams.The person in this role will provide vision and leadership to a team of 50+ employees.Business areas supported are Finance, eCommerce, Sales & Marketing, and Supply Chain.
RESPONSIBILITIES:
Support the CIO on the development of sound Strategic Technology Plans to provide critical guidance for the direction of technology driving growth for the company.
Effectively interpret Strategic Technology Plan into a workable tactical project plan.
Establish, track, and evaluate key technology metrics to optimize the leveraging of all company technology investments, and report on a regular basis with CIO to Senior and Executive level Management.
Employ methodologies/ disciplines related to change management and recommend changes in the technology environment.
Ability to reach out to and work with various business units.
Lead and inspire the application development organization to engage with the business and identify new functionality, develop compelling business cases, prioritize projects, and develop plans that maximize return on investment for the company.
Lead a team managing all aspects of application development and delivery across multiple functions, business units and business lines.
Develop and lead a collaborative and agile software development approach that improves velocity, while maintaining a strong focus on both quality and scalability.
Drive the cultural changes necessary to enable a continuous delivery model and foster a strong focus on automation of the Software Development Life Cycle (SDLC).
Foster a strong customer service mind-set throughout the application development team, while championing thought
Partner with business leaders to create robust solution roadmaps that are integrated with architecture and operations.
Identify emerging technology trends, especially in SaaS and cloud computing, and ensure the company is leveraging them when appropriate to increase efficiency, reduce costs, and drive value.
Partner with internal customers to develop training and deployment plans aimed at maximizing both user adoption and realization of business benefits.
Manage application vendor relationships and negotiate contracts to procure resources and technology solutions to meet the company’s strategic objectives.
Recruit, develop and retain high caliber software development talent, especially for key leadership positions, and develop succession plans.
Implement and champion a robust professional development program, and continuously upskill team members to keep them current.
Evaluate team members’ performance, provide candid feedback and high impact coaching that enables (and motivates) them to achieve departmental as well as enterprise goals.
Build a culture of innovation and engagement, focusing on strengthening the organization’s employer brand to position UniFirst Corporation as an IT employer of choice.
Qualifications
QUALIFICATION/EXPERIENCE REQUIREMENTS:
Bachelor's Degree Degrees in Business Administration, Computer Science, or any related field from an accredited institution with a technology focus, Master’s degree a plus.
A minimum of 10 years in software development, project management, process development and resource management.
Has successfully led development and delivery of multiple complex business technology solutions into production that have achieved or surpassed business goals.
Ability to reach out to and work with various business units.
Experience developing and supporting mission critical, on-premise, proprietary applications and applications optimized to run in the cloud or virtualized environments.
Experience building and supporting ERP, mobile, and inventory tracking applications.
Deep knowledge of system architecture, technical design, and system and software development technology.
Expertise with managing application development at scale, employing SDLC methodologies including Agile and Scrum
Has knowledge of emerging trends and developments in PaaS, SaaS, iOS/Android app API, cloud, AI, machine learning and other digital technologies.
Visible leadership skills and executive presence.
Able to attract, develop and retain talent and build high performing software development teams.
Able to foster a culture of transparency and a sense of purpose among the team and create clear accountabilities and metrics.
Demonstrated ability in developing a culture that embraces innovation, and challenges existing paradigms.

15% of travel required.
