Saint-Gobain Technical Support Specialist in Worcester, Massachusetts

BACKGROUND INFORMATION:

Saint-Gobain is a leading worldwide producer of abrasives, building materials, high-performance plastics, insulation, flat glass, glass containers, piping, reinforcements and industrial ceramics. The Saint-Gobain Superabrasives facility manufactures and markets Superabrasive grinding wheels Resin, Metal and Vitrified for a variety of applications in a broad range of end markets including Automotive, Aerospace, Bearing and Cutting Tool.

The Superabrasives Technical Support Specialists provides technical product support to customers, distributors, SGA’s customer service team, the sales team, and affiliated purchasing teams, pertaining to the design and use of Superabrasives products. In addition, the STSS will support sales and marketing efforts to proactively seize new business opportunities and help recover lost business. This will be done by implementing special marketing programs and telemarketing product promotions at targeted accounts, in accordance with the agreed business plan for growth though these activities.

In addition the individual must posses an outgoing personality and the ability to make first contact with customers, distributors and build lasting mutually respectful relationships over the telephone.

JOB DESCRIPTION:

The principal end results are:

  • Provide technical and product support to customers, distributors, customer service teams, sales teams and affiliate purchasing teams, in the use of Superabrasives products.

  • Field routine technical questions, helps customers find product solutions to fit their application, and assist customers troubleshoot routine application problems.

  • Convert competitive specifications and blueprints to Saint-Gobain specifications, or provide product safety guidance when requested.

  • Review new designs or design changes with customers; and obtain missing information needed to design products.

  • Work with customers to process orders for products returned to be recycled, reworked, or repaired, which requires close communication with customer to assure product is fit for use.

  • Assist with various product design group activities which include part design and creation (BOMs, routings, instructions).

  • Provide product quotations as needed and follow up on quotations in an effort to win new orders.

  • Increase sales volume by establishing new accounts and re-establishing dormant accounts, in conjunction with sales

  • Make telephone contact with low/mid tier accounts, which are typically OEM/Distributor leads not covered by sales team.

  • Periodically initiate promotions to proactively sell slow moving stock, and work with Product Management to implement special marketing programs designed to increase sales volume.

COMPETENCIES REQUIRED:

The successful candidate should possess the following requirements:

  • BS in Business Administration or Engineering preferred with 3 to 5 years related work experience, or equivalent relative work experience

  • Strong knowledge of Superabrasives products and applications

  • Good technical aptitude, ability to interpret complex designs & understand application specifications

  • Ability to read and make changes to product drawings and communicate these changes to all involved.

  • Well organized and detail-oriented, in addition able to work well in a fast paced team environment

  • Strong interpersonal, presentation, and communication skills

  • Effective selling and problem solving skills

  • Ability to maintain composure under stressful conditions

  • Proficient with Microsoft Office products and SAP software

  • Outgoing personality and the ability to make first contact with customers and distributors to promote new product offerings and build lasting mutually respectful relationships over the telephone.
